Writing a brief that gets an accurate quote

What to include so your quote and your first preview are right first time.

A clear brief means a more accurate price, fewer revision rounds and a first preview closer to what you had in mind. You don't need special terms; plain language is best.

Try to answer these questions

  • What do you need made or done, and roughly how much of it? For example, 5 website pages, 12 social posts or one logo.
  • Who is it for? Describe your customers or audience.
  • What should it achieve? More enquiries, a more professional look, a successful launch.
  • What do you already have? Logo, brand colours, photos, text, an existing website or accounts.
  • What do you like and dislike? Links to competitors or examples help a lot.
  • Is there a fixed deadline, such as an event, launch or filing date?

If you don't know some of the answers, say so. We'd rather ask than assume, and part of our job is helping you decide.
